Vital Biometrics and Remote Care at HIMSS 2015

Vital Biometrics and Remote Care at HIMSS 2015At the 2015 Annual HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference and Exhibition, Dr. Roy Schoenberg will be discussing the major advances in remote care being pushed forward by biometric technologies. His talk, “Consumer Healthcare: Video Visits on the Go”, has been arranged by telehealth services provider American Well.

In a statement, Dr. Schoenberg predicted that “2015 is a year of tremendous growth for telehealth.” He notes that hospitals are under increasing fiscal and demographic pressures, and need to find ways to minimize patient stays while providing the care they need. “As they bear more risk,” he said, “health systems and ACOs view telehealth as a way to keep patients out of the hospital and to improve outcomes.” Indeed, as companies such as Calgary Scientific have pointed out, fiscal pressures are pushing many healthcare facilities to merge in order to better manage costs, and in so doing are also pushing them to adopt electronic systems to manage patient records and documents.

Fortunately, advances in biometric technology, and particularly in the area of mobile biometrics, are pushing forward a kind of revolution in remote care, as recent studies have indicated. Companies like American Well are leveraging these emerging technologies to provide an unprecedented level of advancement in remote care systems, and that trend is sure to continue. Dr. Schoenberg will surely have much to discuss at this year’s HIMSS Conference and Exhibition.
