Tax Agencies Tap MorphoTrust for eID Solution

Biometric ID, National IDNorth Carolinian and Georgian tax collection agencies are collaborating together with MorphoTrust USA (Safran) to implement new electronic IDs (eIDs) to help fight tax fraud.

The eID program will be rolled out in a pilot project, with optional opt-in available to interested citizens. In a press release, MorphoTrust explained that the eID will leverage the records available via the states’ motor vehicle agencies (MVAs) to identify participating individuals, with an initial enrollment process involving the verification of biographic and biometric data against those records.

The project is being undertaken with the help of a new grant received from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which builds upon a previous grant that helped to fund a related pilot project in North Carolina last year. The NIST backing helps to demonstrate the level of confidence officials have in MorphoTrust, which has a strong track record in secure credential solutions. The company says it produces 80 percent of America’s driver licenses, and was recently contracted to develop a biometric mobile driver licence for Iowa’s Department of Transportation. Its fair, then, to expect great success for its eID solution for the tax agencies of North Carolina and Georgia.
